VentureSouth to Host Lunch & Learn for Investors

VentureSouth will host a Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, Oct. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. for individuals interested in learning how to become angel investors. The event will take place at VentureSouth headquarters at McAlister Square and will include an overview of angel investing and details about VentureSouth’s history, membership and investment process.

Angel investors are individuals who invest their own capital in startup companies, providing a critical source of funding for early-stage ventures. Angels represent a significant portion of the venture capital market in the United States, providing more than $23B to 66,000 companies in 2018.

“We want to invite more local investors to join us in supporting entrepreneurs in our region who are creating technologies, jobs and wealth in our communities. The more experience and capital we can add to our investor base, the more value we can add to our portfolio companies,” said VentureSouth Co-Founder and Managing Director, Matt Dunbar. “We look forward to introducing our guests to angel investing as an asset class and to our particular approach to investing, which is to ‘Make money. Have fun. Do good.’”

VentureSouth began with the Upstate Carolina Angel Network (UCAN), which formed in 2008 to allow local investors to support early stage ventures in the Southeast with capital and expertise. Since then, VentureSouth has grown to include 300 investors in 12 markets across the Carolinas, and the group has now invested over $40 million in 72 companies.
