Asheville Angels is a member-based angel investor group that finds and funds startups and early-stage companies in Asheville, Western North Carolina, and across the Southeast.
The group was formed in 2014 and made its first investment by the end of 2014. Its approximately 30 investors meet monthly to hear and review pitches from young, innovative, high-growth companies. The group has invested in local Asheville companies like Brightfield Transportation and Plum Print, as well as the leading early stage companies across the Carolinas.
Asheville Angels is a joint venture between VentureSouth and Josh Dorfman at Venture Asheville (the entrepreneurship initiative of the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe County and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce).
Asheville Angels members come from a broad range of backgrounds and interests:
- Multiple members who are claiming the title "angel investor" for the first time - and others who have 20+ years of experience investing in early stage companies
- Backgrounds across a wide variety of fields - from academia to breweries, high-tech startups, marketing, and financial services
- A mixture of Asheville natives and transplants
